Ashwagandha Extract translated from Latin, the scientific name of Wihania somnifera means: “the one that induces sleep”. This, while the name Ashwagandha comes from Sanskrit, meaning “the one that induces the strength of a horse”. Can a plant be at the same time energizing, but also calming, sleep-inducing even? Yes, this plant is known as an adaptogen. Adaptogens are substances that help the body and psyche to adapt (hence the name “adapto”) to everything that is a source of stress. Today’s stress has very varied sources, from chemical stress (pollution product), to electromagnetic, acoustic or media stress. And clinical studies show an entirely unusual breadth of physiological effects of Ashwagandha. It is equally active in the regulation of immune processes1, but also in endocrine regulation2. It has an effect on sexual dynamics (directly related to the state of physical and mental exhaustion), but also on degenerative processes in the brain and the nervous system in general3.
